Franz Kafka grows up in a Jewish bourgeois family in Prague at the end of the 19th century. Sensitive and strong-willed, he searches for his place in a world whose expectations he rarely manages to live up to. As a young man, he is torn between his authoritarian father, the monotonous routine of an insurance office job, and a burning desire to write. Out of this inner struggle emerges a voice that would become one of the most influential in literature.

The multiple Oscar-nominated Agnieszka Holland has taken on the challenge of telling the story of Franz Kafka’s life, work, and vision. The result is a kaleidoscopic portrait that portrays the enigmatic author’s story in a way you have never seen before.
